Are you thinking along the lines of 'Pink Panther' ?

Sir Bossel-
Most *definately*! I just thought of another one after seeing the trailers before the new Austin Powers movie. (Quick rating: 7 out of 10... Funny, but it isn't fresh anymore.) Anyway, the Bond theme is another one recognizeable within a few bars. Any ideas of how to turn this into a great Guide entry?

I'm not sure if it counts as a theme song, but how about the whistled tune in 'The Great Escape'?
To make this a good entry... I'd have with each song a two-line description of the movie, and then blockquoted italics giving a quote from a researcher (or yourself!) about why they always remember that film when they here the theme song. That'd be better reading than just a list, I think

Good idea! (though I already had the Great Escape up. I guess it shows that it really *is* a distinctive song!) I'd like to get a few more songs on the list from a variety of different Researchers before turning it into a real Guide entry, though.

Were you looking for just film themes, or are Tv themes included.
If so, Twin Peaks and Dr Who are a must!

Tv themes are okay.
I've never seen either of those shows. Are they Brittish in origin or just before my time?

Dr Who is VERY British; and unless you're a boring old f**t like me, probably before your time. Twin Peaks ia American, c. 1980 ish

Another obvious addition:
The theme from "Rocky"!

In the eighteis everyone recognised the heavy brass chords at the start of the theme for Dallas
When the BBC had footbal every saturday night the old Match of the Day theme was instantly recognisable.
And even though it has changed a little the Blue Peter Theme is still basicallythe same all these generations on.

Is it the Great Escape theme or the tune the prisoners whistled in 'Bridge Over the River Kwai'?
And you've got to include the 'Peter Gunn Theme' which was made famous again as the background music in that 1980s arcade game 'Spyhunter'

How about the Buffy theme tune? That's go that howl-like sound at the start that's really distinctive - and when the first couple of bars kick in it's really obvious...

It's just barely music, but the theme to JAWS is still awesome. Really give the feeling of the deep-blue, plus the menace of the shark, and there's no jumping out at you as much as just lurking beneath the surface.
Also the best CREEPY music ever is the piano theme from the Halloween movies! John Carpenter's movie was great, if ONLY for that reason, ok, well, maybe that and an 18 year old Jamie Lee Curtis!
The whistled tune from the Great Escape and the song from The Magnificent Seven are two of the best movie themes. . .

Great, guys! I've got another one, too! The trumpets from Patton!
Do you think we have enough to start a Guide entry now? I was thinking that we could just list off the songs with a brief description of each and, if applicable, a personal experience with the song.
If you feel up to helping turn this into a full-fledged entry, let me know and we'll begin! Everyone can just take the ones they recommended and feel free to add more as time goes on!
-Lucrecia
PS: The song from The Great Escape that I was thinking of is the one where they all whistle... I was unaware that this song was a "cover" so to speak. I still think that it works, though.

I was watching TV last night, and I spotted a new one: the start of 'Trigger Happy TV' theme tune. Of course, the guy on the mobile phone certainly helps - but I remember at uni once - it was on during some event or other, and when the theme tune started someone turned the volume up, and suddenly the bar emptied and everyone crammed in to watch! A classic show, even if the likes of jackass are starting to make it look tame nowadays...

Has NO John Williams music been mentioned (besides my mention of Jaws) here's a list of his work, for the unfamiliar:
Superman
Star Wars, Emipre, Jedi, etc.
Raiders of the Lost Arc
I'm sure we all would instantly recognize most of that music!

Superman and the Star Wars themes were both on the "original" post, as was the Great Esacpe, which seems to be getting a lot of mention. Here's another one for you: The Twilight Zone.
The Raiders of the Lost Arc was a good one, too! I haven't thought about that movie in a really long time! It's a great one!
(I must be excited! I'm using! a lot! of exclamation! points!!

Why not submit it again, but this time ask only for comments just on the songs in the list? Or do you think you have enough material already?
