Agh - Wikipedia has lost the space too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idared

I think you'd better consider that a lost cause smiley - sadface

question 16

Post 3

shagbark

since when is Wikipedia considered authoritative?
The wikipedia article only lists two sources and both of those spell it Ida Red.

Maybe I should write the OED before they decide to make Paula Red one word. (that is also an apple)

Tell me about it. smiley - rolleyes I spend a lot of time chasing stuff down. It's worse than 'scribal error' in the Middle Ages.

question 16

Post 10

aka Bel - A87832164

I'm not talking the internet, but market stalls and shops.
It is just the way it is written here in Germany. But thanks to the internet I now learned that Ida is short for Idaho (if I didn't misunderstand that). I never thought it had a meaning.

question 16

Post 11

Dmitri Gheorgheni - Not Banned in China

A, good to know, Bel. smiley - smiley I would have thought Ida was the apple biologist's gf.

As in, 'Ida, sweet as apple cider.'

I never trust the spelling on market stalls in the US. I grew up near Pittsburgh, where every fruit stand had a sign that said 'Fresh Mellons'.

The Mellon family - originator of Mellon Bank, founders of Carnegie Mellon University - had a lot to answer for.

question 16
