All my childhood photos are on slides, and I scanned them in a couple of years ago, so can relate to this. A good read.

Ah! Thanks for that BB, I thought you said it took you Two years to do it
I was going to say...what kind of scanner did you use
No seriously,... I was well pleased to have managed it, as I had never seen a lot of them in all this time.
Although I have backed them all up in Three different ways, I am still not sure whether to sell my scanner or not?

I keep being asked by family members and my wife's family to scan their slides and negatives in too (mine also does negatives), which is handy for the photos at the very end of the film which aren't full photos so they aren't always developed by photographers.
But no, didn't take 2 years to do.

Aye! BB I was only joking about the 2 year thing
Mine does negatives as well, although I have not tried it out yet. I have found a pile of negatives, but cant seem to get the time to try it?
When these scanners first came out they were very expensive,, that's why I waited so long, as the price has dropped now, I got ours for £39.99 from ALDI, which was good as even second ones on Ebay cost around that.
I don't know how you did it, but I gave up with the instructions in the end, and just started clicking the buttons on the key board, until it worked

I don't think the scanner we got came with instructions, so I just plugged it in and hoped for the best, same as you.

Aye! all these kind of things always come with a CD which you have to run to install the drivers and so on.
Had to the do that when I hooked my sat-nav and camera to my computer, even my web cam.
We recently did a complete upgrade on my old desk top, its now a top of the range really fast computer inside an old fashioned tower

Cameras always seem to want you to install stuff when you get them, but nothing works better than windows explorer and photoshop that I've found so far.
Don't have a sat-nav, though. I like reading maps and working out my own routes whenever possible.

Aye! thing is everything we hook up to our computers needs drivers and so on, so the computer can recognise them. Once they are installed it allows you transfer all your pictures onto the computer
I use that Windows Photo Gallery for tweaking my photos, as it does everything I need.
The new version of it which I have got on my desk top with Windows 7 on it. is fantastic!
It did a great job on all my slides which I put on my computer

It is a lot easier to do a lot of things than it was back when I had my ZX Spectrum...
