h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

My Virtual bike is a Vincent Black Shadow. (But it's painted red, only ever sold in the US market.) I also have 2 other virtual bikes, a Vindian and a Norvin, but they are still being restored in my virtual garage.

My actual bikes (which I share with my wife, daughter and son) are:

Guzzi 850T
Honda CX500
Honda CX650
Guzzi Monza 500
another Monza 500
BMW 800/7
Suzuki GN250

Not all are on the road at the same time. I like working on them almost as much as I like riding them!

No, I haven't subscribed to the clubhouse conversation thread yet. I'll do that soon.

No such thing as too many bikes! Plus there is a bit of a story behind why I ended up with so many. (Also, they are not all on the road right now.)

I'll post some pics of my Monzas onto a web site in the next day or so.

Oh, I forget to tell you my first bike. Well, it's a bit hard to say because I grow up around bikes (My dad never owned a car.) My first memories of traveling were in my dad's sidecar (attached to his BSA sidevalve).

The first bike I ever remember pottering around on was a Triumph Tiger Cub. The first bike I *really* rode was a Suzuki 185 trailbike. The first bike I ever owned and rode legally was a Honda CB250 (the orininal one - *shudder*). But I don't like to talk about it!

The club has been very quiet lately...I'd like to see someone organise a Mostly Harmless MC ride day, there must be enough members by now. There's only a few of us Aussies, and we're kind of spread out, but I reckon there's plenty of Poms who could get together...

I started the club also because I'm keen for people to talk about important stuff too, issues about motorbiking, etc. But you can lead a horse to water etc. etc.

The first road bike I rode was a friend's CB200, nearly ran it straight into the gutter. Which is kind of a metaphor for my life, really

I saw your posting to the "how to ride" entry (what did you think of the entry, it was my first) and I agree with what you say about being conscious of counter-steering.

We had a bit of a chat about front licence plates and hard-wired headlights and speed cameras as part of the MC soapbox. Definitely revenue-raising, especially in Vic. Love the article in the latest AMCN about the bodgy speed-cameras. I can't believe how low the tolerance is when speedometers are only meant to be +/- 10% above 40klm/hr according to Australian standards...

Yeah, I thought your "How to ride a motorcycle" article was pretty good. I didn't see anything I disagreed with.

If you check out my space ( U534984 ) you will see that I am a Pom (as well as being a naturalised Ozzy), so please forgive the occasional whining noise from my virtual bike.

I thought that my bit on counter steering might do as an article with a bit of a polish. I also am working on a bit about steering geometry.

My wife and I recently got booked (2 bikes, 2 fines) for doing 84km/h in an 80 zone. This was on a fine sunny day, no other traffic, on a highway, just before a 100km/h sign. No way my speedo (Honda CX) is better than +-10%, and the wife's Guzzi, forget it! The speedo tells you whether you are moving forward or not. Thats about it. (The Italians are not famous for making good instruments.)

Man that would make me so angry! I'd be ringing up Steve Bracks and complaining ten times a day! Unbelievable!!!
My better half is from Victoria, and we'll be visiting down there for the week before Christmas. I will definitely not be doing any driving!!!

Yep, you probably could do a whole entry on counter-steering. There's an entry on centrifugal force (linked from the club page) which may be relevant...
