A Conversation for Talking Point: Who is your hero?
Sir David Attenborough

My hero is without any doubt Sir David Attenborough. I have been watching his ground-breaking and magical portrayals of Mother Nature all my life. He's been my inspiration to work in ecology and conservation, and I'm sure he's inspired thousands of others too.
His wonderful passion and wit in describing the natural world enthuses many, many people over many generations. And of course he's travelled to so many fascinating places in the world, getting stuck right into the thick of it - he once entered a massive termite nest, and also managed to conquer his fear of rats by going down a sewer to get up close and personal with them.
Of course he was also controller of BBC TV.
What a hero!!! I've never been lucky enough to meet him, but I do remember writing to Jim'll Fix It, to ask to meet the great man - just shows what lengths I'd go to, *lol*. But, seriously, I'd give anything to meet him. The stories he could tell would be mind blowing - especially being able to ask about his famous encounter with the Mountain Gorillas.
