Father of medicine?
Many years before Hippocrates there lived a man whom, if his tomb is ever found, could possibly be declared the father of medicine in Hippocrates' place.
The ancient Egyptians worshipped their Royal families as living gods. No 'mortal' ever appeared on the reliefs or in the art, except for Imhotep.
Hollywood has made Imhotep infamous as an evil mummy who returns from the dead, or 'underworld'. The real-life Imhotep though, was a gifted physician revered by Pharoah.
The Innovator
Imhotep was much more than just a physician. He was an innovator in many fields including architecture. The tombs that he built for the royal dead established the processes that underpinned all pyramid construction in the nation of Egypt's history. Imhotep stands out as possibly the first individual recorded in the annals of ancient history because of his own achievements rather than by virtue of birth, social rank or position, possibly the first 'individual' in human history.
