A Conversation for A Life on the Ocean Wave: Baby, it's Cold Outside

Bu

Beatrice

I found that negatvising using "bu" to be one of the most straighforward aspects of learning Mandarin, but in my mind it was always "not" rather then "no":

So, "Wo bu shi meigwarein, wo shi irlanren" - I'm not American, I'm Irish

or

"Wo shoo de bu hao" I speak it not well.

It reminded me a bit of the Irish Gaelic language, where there's no yes and no, so people will say "I am, you do, it will, he isn't" and so forth.
