It is more difficult for state school people to get in. I think some colleges claim it's 50-50 - but only something like 2% of all 6th form students go to private schools... smiley - erm

1) wrong
2) currently there are 56% of staeschoolers at oxbridge. that will grow due to government pressure. its far easier for staeschoolers.
3) its 8%

Well, whatever those figures, the probability of me getting into Oxford is very, very low. smiley - winkeye

But I'll be dashed if I'm not going to try anyway! smiley - silly

I don't think we've actually been predicted anything... smiley - erm
Apart from our baseline grades, that is...

Actually while I'm thinking about it... did you see the Times on Sunday? Pembroke College were going to accept a large donation in return for increasing the chances of someone's son getting in..

Don't worry about Pembroke, Prof, it's one that doesn't do Physics. smiley - winkeye

It means it drastically reduces our chances of getting in.

It's, it's... Well, I suppose it is good business sense. smiley - winkeye
But it doesn't make me feel any better. What if all the rich kids get their parents to pay large sums of money to let them in? There'd be no room for people like myself! smiley - erm

no there wouldnt. but then, that *is* life. survival of the fittest. social evolution if you will. as a scientist, you have to agree. as a moralist, you dont have to, but a true scientist would argue against morals.

I do agree with you from a scientist's point of view. In fact, it's almost along the same lines as an article I'm going to write soon for my latest website. But it's still not good for me. smiley - winkeye

Well, I don't think they would /all/ the time, but they'd have to to get anything done. Morals get in the way of a lot of things. Animal testing, for instance.
Though I must admit that in that case there were other methods of obtaining the same data if only they'd waiting a while. smiley - erm
