Yeah, I can't think of anyone I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to... 'cept for maybe George W Bush and his pals... and let's face it if I did meet them I'd be making a few slightly more personal suggestions first...

I'd have to agree with that - I didn't enjoy it either, it didn't seem to have any point except to show a lot of war.
Yet I've heard a lot of people raving about it

Yeah, I've heard it described as Oscar-bait and the best war film ever... Most odd.
Have to put it down to the usual Ridley Scott cheerleaders - some people have their heads easily turned by a lot of pretty pictures and no real story or characterisation, I guess (I am biased, BTW - didn't like Alien, Blade Runner or Gladiator as much as everyone else, either. Did rate The Duellists though, funnily enough.).

I liked Gladiator in a "pass-two-hours-with-some-only-moderately-silly-lines" kind of way. I haven't seen any of the others you mentioned
I have now seen the next candidate for "most silly film of the year" - Vanilla Sky

Am aiming to see that on Saturday in preparation for a bilingual review of both VS and the original film from Espana.
I like a challenge...
I didn't *dislike* Gladiator, I thought it was an okay film, just nothing special... certainly, none of the set-piece duels came anywhere close, quality-wise, to the gladiatorial fight between Woody Strode and Kirk Douglas in Spartacus...

I've heard there is a very good sword fight in the middle of Highlander:Endgame. but i havent seen it because the video shop lady is nasty.
have either of you seen it?
i quite liked gladiator, but ithought the tear jerking went a bit to far and had very little point. though the crazy emperor guy was well crazy

Not seen the Highlander
I was going to watch Open Your Eyes (the original) on Saturday, but then remembered I was going to be away and there'd be no-one to tape it for me video shop here I come
Vanilla Sky is intriguing to say the least... rather distracting use of Good Vibrations though IMO

I will probably watch Highlander Endgame when it turns up on Channel 5 but I have to say I prefer the TV series to the movies. If we're going to discuss great cinema swordfights, theone between the two women towards the end of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon really raised the bar. And just to be really wilfully obscure there's one at the end of a Hammer horror film called Captain Kronos I've always had a soft spot for.
I'm fascinated by all the reviews VS has got. I very much enjoyed the same director's film The Others, so fingers crossed for a quality piece of work.

yeah, but you have to suffer looking at tom cruise. i'd rather watch brad pitt. i think he's great. i particulrly liked him as death in 'meet joe black' or as the loony in '12 monkeys' and as louie in 'inteview...'
ohhh, brad pitt as an immortal, that would be cool.
