Eddie Izzard, like many other stand-ups, has the ability to recite a script exactly as planned and make it look completely improvised. Not that I'm knocking the man, it's still absolute genuis and he does improvise in interviews etc with a lot of wit (but not the same level of sillyness)

I reckon the funniest broadcast programme is I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

As an American, I haven't seen many of the comedians discussed here. I don't know if he's invaded Britan, but my favorite comedian is Carrot Top because he has the same birthday as I do (Feb. 25).

Carrott top, has he got 'Ginger Hair'? - no wonder he's amusing then. Sorry, but as a ginge myself I'm a bit over sensitive on the issue.
I just wanted to set the stall out for Derek and Clive (Peter Cook and Dudley Moore). They are (were) bloody hilarious, and it is still funny today, much harder to do than comics who are funny today - gone tomorrow. Also used to really like the Mary Whitehouse Expereince when it was on telly, Rob Newman was (is) a seriously funny cat.

Delving into the distant realms of comic prehistory, Stan Freburg was one of the best - his "So you want to be a rock and roll star?" is even funnier in these days of "Pop Idol" and "Pop Stars"...

I agree, the Mary Whitehouse experience was brilliant, as was Pete and Dud.
I also want to shout the praises of Paul Merton the Series [surreal and funny], Not the Nine O'clock News, The Detectives [Just Funny] and Murder Most Horrid [dark and funny].
