Actually, years and donkey's years ago, when Elektra and I edited a science journal at uni, we found out that all NASA stuff was free - as long as you acknowledged them. See, it's paid for by taxpayers, just like the Beeb...
So our journal got cool cover art. First photos of Mars, etc. And I always thank them for the pics.

I've just been reading http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/weekend/2010/0508/1224269933467.html , on a related note.
I never really thought I'd find one, but keeping up with astronauts in space might just be one great reason for using Twitter.
