HI Deackie! Have you perchance heard of the Royal Liberty Morris Men?
They are a bunch of bikers based in Hornchurch (Essex), who have their own interpretations of some of the traditional dances. They have appeared on telly a few times (I believe on the BBC) and have travelled all over the country to perform. Unfortunately I have lost the contact info, but I will try to find it if you are interested.
they would definitely provide a modern slant on what is essentially an age-old tradition /

Are they the ones that dress in leather and act as fearsome as possible? I believe I have seen them on the telly. I didn't know what they were called so couldn't search for them on the internet, I'd love any info you could give me

Rightho! Bear with me and i'll try to find out some more info. I used to know a couple of them personally, but have been out of touch for quite some time. It may take a while to track them down, however I shall try. Their most well known dance was the "Bonneville" dance which involved lots of spanners 'n' large impliments being waved about and used on each others noses. They probably consume more real ale than anyone I currently or ever did know. The one name I do remember is Pete Robinson, a large hairy chap with a beard you could hide a badger in. anyway, chack ya soon. Otter

That's great thanks. Spanners? I find it dangerous enough with sticks. I do hearterly approve of the consumption of large quantities of real I think the spirit of Morris dancing isn't in people wearing white and delicately waving hankies. IMO it would have been done by the common village person and probably wouldn't have been technically perfect and would have been rather boisterous. Sounds like fun huh?

Yes it does! in fact much chortling is usually had by all when these guys perform and it can get a tad out of hand on occasions. But hey! it's all good wholesome fun anyway.
