"Interestingly, almost all of the dot com millionaires have are very open to new ideas, even at an age when most people are not."

The "have are" doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Now I've no qualifications for commenting on this subject other than my own thoughts on the matter, however I would like to suggest that as a child or new intellect just starting out learning you have no prior assumptions, and intial learing is filling in these gaps, and thus is not really demonstrating fluid intellegnce.
Fluid intellect is one then that can cope with changes to things that have already been learnt.
In my view the ease of achiving a "fluidly intellegent decision" relates to how much, how recently, and with what degree of success the "thing that is being changed" has been used.

I don't really like my wording on the last paragraph but having already written it five times over, with numerous minor adjustments along the way, my not so fluid intellect is willing to leave it in the hands of someone more competent at writting (that would be most people).

this entry definately needs expanding, but I don't think your idea of what fluid intelligence is works.

fuid intelligence is best defined in contrast to crystaline intelligence. crystaline intelligence is all the rules and data that you have built up over the years. fluid intelligence is partially about how flexible you are in using that accumulated knowledge, and in modifying it when new data comes in.

a story demonstrating this difference occurs at the ford factory in it's early years.

henry ford went to the engineers, and asked the chief engineer how he could add automatic windscreen wipers to cars. the chief engineer used all his knowledge, and told ford that it was impossible.

ford promptly fired him.

then he turned to the next highest ranking engineeer and asked the same question. he figured out a method and automatic windscreen wipers appeared on the new car.

the moral of this story is that the cheif engineer had a lot of crystaline intelligence built up from years of work, and new that it couldn't be done.

his replacement was much more flexible, and used that flexibility to solve the problem which was said to be impossible.

I will have to figure out how to extend this entry.

That in no way contradicts what I have said and can be viewed as supporting it.
The first engineer was unable to go againt the facts as he had learned them and concieve of a new way to do things, quite probably he had been using his knowledge on how to build cars and thier parts every day that he had been in the job, thus the knowledge was fixed withing his own mind as valid and working. The new guy having less practical experiance that is either not using or not having specific knowledge to the same degree, has an easier time of thinking of things that break those rules he does know, ie to do the "impossible".

the "new guy" could have had exactly the same knowledge, and the story would be no different. the knowledge is the stuff used in crystaline intelligence. it is the flexibility to reinterpret that same knowledge which is more critical for fluid intelligence.
