A Conversation for The H2G2 Queen Fan Club
Yes! I'd *Love* To Help Write The Definitive Queen Entry!
A Super Furry Animal Started conversation Jan 25, 2005
Hello all!
Yes, the time has come...all the data for the all-singing, all-dancing entries on Queen, for inclusion in the Edited Guide, has been collated via a two-and-a-half week long "Topic Of The Week" on the Front Page.
Now we need volunteers to get this into some sort of shape for the EG. I have been "volunteered" by Jimster (but if someone else wants to take this responsibility from me, let me know! ) to do this.
My proposal is to have separate entries thus:
Queen: The Early Years (including pre-Queen info)
Queen: Band Of The Seventies
Queen: Band Of The Eighties
Queen: In The Nineties (including post-Queen work)
Queen: The Best Live Band In the World
Freddie Mercury
Brian May
John Deacon
(Roger Taylor - already in the EG)
Of course, this is not set in stone, and if you have another suggestion, or another topic you can write about, please let me know.
I need help from you - yes, *you!* to write all these. I am claiming the "The Best Live Band In the World" for myself but obviously include and credit anyone else who has contributed to the thread on the subject.
As I understand it, everyone who has contributed to the threads on the topic of the week will be credited - how this will be done I'm not sure, with different entries, but I will undertake to take that up with the italics.
I look forward to this becoming the busiest thread on H2G2 as you all fight it out to help create the greatest entry on H2G2, for the greatest band on H2G2!

Well, RF, I don't mind writing something for ya! Not sure what exactly though. Maybe something on their songs in general. Like lyrics, producers, stories behind songs......that sort of thing. Though I might need to narrow it down, or just write a lot.
What do you think? Please be honest....I need real help, but I'd like to do it.

I book Freddie!!!
If anyone else does it I'll throw at them!
RF, you didn't include an entry on their actual songs. So then NPY can take that on - ok with you NPY?
Queen sang too many songs, so doing all the lyrics would be way too much (you agree RF?), but I like your idea on the stories behind the songs, cause that's something we don't hear about often.

I'll take any bits that no-one else wants..! If you want to 'assign' me to something, maybe 1980s and/or 1990s..? But I'm happy to write anything

So far, then...
Queen: The Early Years (including pre-Queen info)
Queen: Band Of The Seventies
Queen: Band Of The Eighties: Danny B?
Queen: In The Nineties (including post-Queen work) : Danny B
Queen: The Best Live Band In the World: Reddyfreddy
Freddie Mercury: Laudatortemporisacti
Brian May
John Deacon
Queen Songs: Not Panicing Yet.
On the songs front, there's already an entry dedicated to '39 at A733619, but I don't envisage you doing a separate entry for each song! I guess an entry on a selection of signifcant songs can be put together quite easily, with a paragraph or so (longer if it warrants it, e.g. Bohemian Rhapsody) on each one. This can then be updated as required.
As far as albums go, orcus did some sterling work on F1990068?thread=565376 and I think that these should be included on each of the "decade" entries, with Orcus credited as co-author, if that's OK with everyone?
Jimster has asked that there be a general entry on Queen, which will link to all the detailed sections above. I'm happy to pull this together, both from my own sources/knowledge and the contributions made on *all* the various threads. Everyone who has contributed will be credited on this entry (with the possible exception of *this* researcher! : F1990068?thread=575250 *)
RF
* As I don't think his contribution really adds to the general sum of knowledge.

Danny B Posted Feb 2, 2005
I suppose we could all simply post here when the various bits are finished. Then we can all read each others', do a sort of pre-PR review, and then all submit the Entries to PR in one go.
Alternatively, we could just submit to PR as and when each bit is finished. Things like links between the various sections could then be added later through <./>Feedback-Editorial</.>. This would make it more difficult to spot areas where there is overlap between Entries etc.
I'm happy either way
RF..?

Unless you're going to analyse the lyrics (e.g. A733619, A2163133), it's breach of copyright to include them in full. You'll only be able to include a few lines, I'm afraid
You're probably best to change it before it gets moderated...

Whoops! sorry all, my computer time has been a bit restricted over the last week, haven't been keeping up...
Erm, I'm still waiting for Jimster to give me editorial control on the threads from the TOTW. Just going to go over and bounce that thread...
As far as publishing them is concerned, I'd like to get them all finished so that they can go into Peer Review at the same time, preferably with links all in place. I'm not entirely sure how to do this, so I'll be getting some help from the italics, hopefully.
As some of the subjects don't have authors yet, it might take a bit of time to pull all this together...however I think it's important to do this properly, and not a rush job, so please be patient everyone.
