You might want to have a section devoted to the sail itself, describing the parts of a sail. You mention these in passing, but it might be good to have as section on this early on
head - top
luff - front/windward edge
leach - back/leeward edge
foot - already mentioned, bottom
I guess these all apply to triangle sail sloops, but those are a major class of ship.

right oh, I just read the first article, which contains the definition of "sailing ships" which thus makes my comments about sails above meangingless. Sorry 'bout that, good article, enjoying reading it.
