Yes, I saw "Great Gatsby." There was some rap guy [Lay-Z?] who was overlaying Gatsby-bases rap in some party scenes. It seemed very odd to have 1922 and 2013 mixed like that

It did. I'm told they also overdid the use of 3D effects. I don't know, I'm not able to see 3D due to my patch. (Seriously: I don't wear one, but I was born almost blind on my right eye, so can't really see 3D. Not that I miss it, I get by fine)

I see movies in theaters rather than on video for several reasons:
1. My house is too small to accommodate a large-screen TV. If movie tickets are expensive, at least I get to see the movies on large screens with surround sound.
2. Getting out of the house to go to a movie theater is an event. It's part of memory-building. When I remember movies that I've enjoyed, I remember how nice the theater seats were, how soothing it was to be able to concentrate on the movie without the distractions that I have in my house and neighborhood.
3. Seeing movies in theaters means that I go when they're playing. Even if only 10% of the population sees movies in theaters, nevertheless there are people discussing them -- some of your friends, movie critics on TV, newspaper critics. Actors appear on talk shows to promote the movies they're in. You learn a bit about how the movie was made, you get a sense about how important it was for modern culture. Seeing a 2013 movie in 2026 or 2050 would not be the same.

I love going to the cinema - its a great trip out. It is not easy to get to a cinema for me at the moment so its a real treat too!

The newer cinemas have nice lounges to sit in while you wait for your movie to start. The one I go to most has a restaurant and numerous options for snacks -- a Starbucks coffee shop, a first-rate pizza place, and some booths that offer good-quality sandwiches. Those are separate form the regular concessions booth, which has popcorn, nachos, candy7, and soft drinks.

again,
Those are all good points, paulh
I go to the cinema for the exact same reasons. "My" cinema was built only a few years ago when they had finally found out how to make sure everybody could see the screen in spite of even the tallest giant sitting in the seats in front of you. And since the invention of surround sound and digital films the events have become even more spectacular.
We were never allowed to smoke in cinemas (in neither Germany nor Denmark), thank Bob! But now we are allowed to have a drink, which is great. I usually carry a small bottle of water just to make sure that I don't get a cough that will annoy both me and others.

Yes and very practical it is too
To even things out the next rounds will be on the Lighthouse
But how exactly that even things out I haven't really figured out yet since all rounds here are for free
Oh well, who cares? I for one couldn't careless

Please keep coming back, everybody! A lot of the other places at H2G2 are being deserted by researchers.
