What's your favourite SA street food?

I like smiley - smiley the pineapple on a stick you can get on the beach in Durban, with chilli powder on top!
But the Beloved Husband prefers the Joberg smiley - corncob street meilies, roasted and just ever so slightly burnt over a fire in a recycled oil drum.

Use to go to The Doors night club quite a bit when it was still in Jo'burg city centre. You could get the most amazing boerewors rolls from vendors outside at any time during the night. I'm just really glad that I don't know what they were made from!!!

I cannot for the life of me remember what my favourite street food is, but I DO know my least favourite: In the morning, on my way to university, I occasionally take a taxi from Bellville station's taxi rank. At about 8 in the morning, there are these ladies with "skottel braai's" and they start to coook. First they put in lumps of fat as grease and then fry meat of uncertain origin. Most off-putting, especially on an empty stomach smiley - sadface

I don't buy street food but my husband used to buy freshly roasted peanuts from a street vendor who also cooked mielies. I like to buy tomatoes & onions from the vendors. R2.50 for a plate of about 5-6 tomatoes or onions. What a pleasure!

Oh you've reminded me of the summer fruit, the mangos, mountains and mountains of mangos by the road... I wish it were summer!

Oh yes, come back summer, all is forgiven!! I detest winter and today is one of the worst days so far this year.
Mangos - yummmmm!
