How to spot them:
good light source.
pale 'dots' on hair shaft
ends of hair - preferably shoulder-length or longer.
Different types:
Y or 'fork' split - basic, end of hair splits in two
W split - 3 or more branches
Branch split - higher up the hair
Eye of the needle split - a hole in the middle of the hair. Can break into branch
Ladder split - piece de resistance. Several needle eyes together, forming the rungs of a ladder, with outer edges of hair intact.
How to deal with them:
Theoretically - cut them off.
Conditioners - don't work in the long term.
Could carry small scissors and attack each hair.
Best fun is to break them.
