I felt the same way

I felt the same way when I was eighteen or nineteen. Being idealistic is an important part of your developing and maturing. Eventually, you will be able to take a mature view of national and world politics, and perhaps get a chance to travel to some countries where they do not have the benefits the United States offers its citizens.
To state that the country is "going to hell" and that "Bush is driving the bus" indicates a lack of depth, though. It's a pretty vague statement, at best. All he did is grab the wheel from Clinton, who set the course for eight long years while the groundwork for all this "hell-going-to" was going on.
I hope, as you grow in years and experience, you can take a more realistic view of the world, and the nation. San Francisco isn't the best place to have that happen, but you are obviously intelligent, and will sort it all out for yourself, given time and education. As far as having the government leave you alone, that's what we all need! However, the last thing you would want to do is leave for another country. We have it pretty good here.

PeaceLuck

First I would like to know what about San Francisco (and it's surrounding areas) makes it such that it isn't the best place for me to develope a realistic view on the world?

Second... I did write this entry a while back and I haven't taken time to update it since. I was mostly extreamly irritated with all the s**t that happened with the election... then to follow that up, the games that Bush played with California about the power crisis. I have come to some new conclusions since then... I still don't like the direction this nation is taking, and I feel that peoples' mind set have only gotten worse since September 11th. I do however realize that we have it much better than most of the world, and we're entitled to the right to stand up and tell our government when they're wrong. Unfortunately I have been seeing things that make me worry about those rights going down the drain also.

It looks like if I'm going to bail out of the mess, I'm going to have to leave the whole planet behind, but I think I'll give a try to standing up and telling people what I think. I'm currently thinking an intergalactic expressway may be much more useful than this rock covered with a bunch of egotistical humans... but I'm listening for someone to show me I'm wrong.
