Anarchists believe that rigid rules governing society should be done away with. Some believe that people should then invent their own rules: others that there should be no rules at all.

How they would do in a world without law is unclear: an oft-repeated suggestion in the USA is that if anarchism ever triumphed, every gun-owner would immediately go out and shoot the nearest anarchist.

In spite of the apparent oxymoronic quality of the phrase "organised anarchists", they do occasionally try to get together to work this sort of problem out. Their ability to get along with others was perhaps illustrated by one of the earliest such attempts. The early communist movement involved a large number of anarchists. As a result, Marx had to split from the original communist grouping because he couldn't get anything done.

Oligarchs and plutocrats everywhere are reported unworried by the threat anarchism poses...
