An overview of the children's television programme on viewer-supported PBS as well as a brief biography of the man himself.

I grew up watching the show and now my daughters are watching it. He also spoke at my college's commencement ceremonies.

Cheers! smiley - rose

Actually, I'm working on a Sesame Street one, having noticed the other day there didn't seem to be anything. I am dividing it into History & Education, Songs, Animation, Muppeteers and International at this time.

If anyone is aware of one, I'd like to know.

Carroll Spinney, who plays Big Bird, was once invited to be on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, however, the script had Spinney taking off the costume, and sitting in the living room with Rogers, explaining how the costume worked. Spinney believes that children only get a limited amount of time to be children, when they can believe in an 8-foot tall, 5 year old canary, and he wasn't too keen on the idea of spoiling that. When he explained he couldn't do it, Rogers said 'Well, in that case, on my show, you could only appear in the world of make-believe'. So Spinney as Big Bird made an appearance on the show out there, instead.

I have no idea why I can rattle off these anecdotes like this, but ask me where my chequebook is and I draw a blank.

It might also be worth pointing out that the cast did a live touring show during the summers for awhile -- my sister and I went, and I think I still have my autographed pictures somewhere.

Wow! Really?!?

There's an interactive children's exhibit which is touring the country too, but I avoided mentioning it because I'm not sure how long it's going to run (my going there with my daughters was the inspiration for this entry).

Mikey, if you've got any more details about that touring show I'd be more than happy to include them. Was it the human cast *and* the puppets? Where did they appear? Ect, ect... smiley - smiley

I still sneak home from work some days to watch the show with my girls. smiley - smiley

Thanks for the comments. I'll have most of those details up by Monday at the latest.

OK, so it's Tuesday. smiley - tongueout

But since this was pre-emptively accepted for inclusion, I've done a quick slam to get all the stuff in there including bits on some of the songs and the human cast.

I'm leaving out the bit about the interactive museum program and the cast tour (sorry Mikey!). It's really quite a bit longer than I had originally planned...

Anyway, thanks everyone for your feedback! smiley - smiley

Now I'll just wait for Mark to offer his congratulations. Perhaps I should have the champers waiting for him?
