A joint effort from me and Pinniped.
The Flax Mill was on my drive to work for 14 years. I got pretty attached to it, so I owe Pin for getting most of the construction of this done, leaving me to do just a bit of painting and decorating and topping it off.
Buildings like this one should not be allowed to just decay!
Hopefully this is EG-able.

Mills are fascinating, and this one seems to be quite special. Haven't read it all yet, though, it's a little late now. I'll be back.

This is really nice. Interesting addition to the body of knowledge, here, definitely EG-worthy.
A quibble, perhaps: In the third paragraph, you refer to 'a disused factory that was built in 1797'. Now, I know what it means, but it's a little confusing, since it was not built as a disused factory.
Reword, perhaps?

This is a terrific entry! It is well researched and incorporates the human, personal elements as well as the historical factoids. You guys did a great job. I hope that you can use a picture of it for the front page when it comes up.

Thanks all , glad you liked the Mill.
Bob, I've never been inside - I want to see that for real.
Researching the Mill I read that many of the fixtures and fittings in the Apprentice houses were intact when the Malting ceased in 1997. They've been removed, broken, set on fire since. Such a waste.
Slight rewording, just for you Dmitri . I prefer the reworded version, so thanks for quibbling.

I've finally made it to come back and read it all.
It solved the riddle about Pin's current tagline.
What a fascinating building.
Good entry.
Just two small nitpicks:
>>The Ditherington Fax Mill has been referred to as an expression of Enlightenment Thinking4 and even in the 'the most flourishing town in England'<<
I like the idea of a Fax mill and you have two times 'the' in here.

Read this a while ago, but only just remembered to comment on it now that B'El had bumped it up. I'm in a very architectural, constructive mood this week, working on an entry about a particular structure myself.
I liked this one. I think you're stretching the building's importance a bit, from what I read. But hell, what's the point of writing an entry unless you're going to 'build' up your subject a bit? The title is excellent, by the way.
Always a pleasure to see you writing, Waz . And Pin, too, of course... most of the time.

Thanks both.
Fixed those Bel. My father had a fax mill - at least he had a machine that span out lots of fax
Jordan, not convinced! I'm shocked!
Actually these claims are always a bit chicken and eggish. All you can do is make a case - like the title says.
