Far too much stuff is kept. In some places this is legally necessary, but far too much stuff is kept "in case we need it"
Academic offices are terrible for this. I do my filing once a week and fill the recycling bin. I sort email every morning and chuck.
I go through the paper filing system twice a year and throw out anything I haven't used the previous semester.
Ditto with the personal stuff. I go home to England twice a year and it's apalling how much paper rubbish has built up since the last visit.
So why have I still got a birthday card in my desk that my children gave me thirteen years ago?

I think it's a lovely article. Have extended your filing ideas to clothes cupboards. There is no point in keeping anything unworn for a year and less than no point in keeping odd socks

Nice one The main point of colour coding is that it brightens the ubiquitous grey. I HATE grey office furniture
