Cyprus Problem

It is so sad to see how people can oversimplify things. Being someone (a Turkish Cypriot) from Cyprus who has actually lost a relative much earlier than 1974 to the Greek killings on the island I think the message posted on here about Cyprus Problem not only gives a completely wrong idea about the problem but it also serves to make a possible solution to the problem harder to achieve.
If we are to reach some kind of solution we should at least stop lying to others about what has happened on the island and stop playing "Oh, I am so innocent, they just came and slaughtered us" crap.. Turkey *did* have a right to come and intervene (by the Guaratee Treaty signed in London when the Cyprus Republic was to be formed in 1960) as the Greek Cypriots actually staged a coup 5 days earlier and replaced the elected president by a murderer who stated that they were going to make the island a part of Greece.
What turkey did not have a right to do however though, was to stay on the Island for this long and support division rather than restoring the Republic.

I must say that even though there was a Ku against Makarios, Turkey still had no right to cause the problems. The actual invasion of the island was orchestrated by Greek generals who were under the influence of the Americans. This invasion was intended to desrupt peace in Cyprus. It was proven on 1 January 2001 that Britain and the USA attempted to do just this, along with the assasination of Makarios. As a result, Makarios was most likely to have been assasinated for the benefit of the USA. Britain however did try to intervene and stop the KU, but the Americans stopped them and as a result Cyprus now remains didvided. The intentions of Turkey would never have been to restore peace in the first place, that is not how Turkey works, and it never will be.

I also have a relative who was captured during the war, so I also know how Turks acted at the time of the invasion, and the article was not written to offend anyone who read it, but I tried to give a basic round up of the situation.
