Hullo. Here's a quicky because I was in the neighborhood, heard a story, did some reading, and decided to do some writing as well.

I am trying to obtain some more details about the court case - either newspaper records or court records - but without trekking down to the central library and peering at microfilms it is slow going.

Hi Leo and Happy Returneth smiley - biggrinsmiley - cake

Here are a handful of nitpicksI've spotted smiley - biro

1983 should have a comma after it

Quotations should be in single marks not double

I think the quotation should be changed to this.

They say I mesmerize people. That's just not true. They charge me with adopting a courtly manner to manipulate these women…I never realized there was any other way to treat a woman than the way I do. Is it wrong for a man to hold the door for a woman to pass through? Is it wrong to buy them flowers? If the rest of the men in the United States don't treat women that way, then I'm sorry for the women in this country. No wonder so many of them were anxious to marry me.

Can you find a quote from one or more of the women he let down?

Watch out for repetition. You have written the word 'offerings'
twice in quick succession.

Is there any links that can be used?

<> change to 'For this, he received 28-years for fraud, six for bigamy, and a $338,000 fine. For this, he received a 28-years for fraud, six for bigamy, and a $338,000 fine'.

Good entry. Opti's nitpicks are all good ones although her explanation of the 28-years sentences has got mangled - there's an extra "a" in that sentence.

Good work.smiley - ok

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office

What a story! This needs to go into the Guide.

Which one of them took him to court? And, if he'd used different names each time, how were other victims tracked down to testify?

Hi,

Thanks all. I set a librarian friend on the trail of court records, and she's forwarded me some documents that I'm going to read over the weekend. Hopefully, it will shed light on the matter.

I will clarify who took him to court - he was caught by his third-to-last wife, but imprisioned on charges from his last. Exactly how many wives testified I am not sure - I hope to find court records about that.

Then I'll take care of all those nit-picks. (Thanks Opti - I was beginning to feel neglected.)

Nice one - smiley - ok

I've got nothing to add, only that a 'swap meet' is the US equivalent of a 'car boot sale'.
