Yeah.
We discussed this in the office today and realised it's actually pretty blatant - first lines of the song - 'If you want to I'll change your situation/ Right people right time but the *wrong location*' - wrong location meaning, well, you're a kitty of the world, aren't you, you can figure it out for yourself...
We couldn't figure out what Inspector Chisholm's role in all this was though.

Terry is also a girls name.. when you think about it... and... that huge cidar that Arfur always sucked... was obviously a phallic symbol... ~Greebo warms to her topic...~
Hmmmmmmmmm... topics... me wubbles choccie... ~Greebo sighs~

Awix Posted Nov 23, 2001
Terry was really a girl????
Hang on, does this mean that Minder was in fact some sort of metaphor for the empowerment of ladies who like ladies????
I shudder to think what this implies about Only Fools And Horses. The new significance of the line 'God bless hooky street' doesn't bear thinking about.

Oh lord... me can see this conversation being moderated... for bringing BBC programs into disrepute... ~grin~
Minder subtext shocker
Awix Posted Nov 23, 2001
In that case the BBC should moderate itself for the same reason (and for going rubbish over the last ten or fifteen years).
Okay, let's stick to the opposition - am I the only one who spotted an odd h*m*sexual subtext to that programme Queer as Folk...?
(Hey, we've finally got an entry in the Harry Potter contest!)

Me was just re-reading The Post... and stopped by 24LAS... me did notice an entry...and me actually snorted with laughter... ~grin~... but then me always am tickled by toilet humour... er.. that's not good imagery me thinks...
Shazz.. did told me that she hadn't had a reply to her competition either... and... a lot of competitions me has run on the past did not have great replies... ~sad grin~... in fact me had to modify the article me was running at the time to take reader participation out... me came to the conclusion that readership of the POST was partly to blame... to have competitions really take off... you have to have lots and lots of people reading your article... so that the few that are interested in responding make for a nice result... sadly me not think the POST readership runs into the lots and lots... though me could be wrong... GBO gets on average just under 30 replies per week... now me is not saying that everyone who reads the post, votes... but me would bet that a fair number do... after all... there are not a lot of people who can resist the pull of an internet vote... ~grin~
Don't get to upset if you don't have to many replies... just be happy with what you do get... me would have entered... ~grin~... but me thought with me being a third of the judges... it would be classed as cheating... ~grinny grin~
Ouch... my fingers paws with typing so much...

Yeah, this first time is just a sort of experiment... Shazz mentioned that the post got about 3-400 reads a week. I suspect that simply because we are 'the post' people are less likely to respond with the usual sort of feedback.
Certainly in the three months I've done the column I've only had three pieces of feedback (and two of those were to the very first one I wrote!). As you know I'm coming to terms with not knowing whether anyone actually reads the &$%£ thing or not.
We had another entry, BTW - someone saying 'I can't see the point of this' which made me roll on the floor laughing... a dead cert for the silver medal at the moment...

Me does understand what you mean my love... ~grin~... ou write for other people... and thats the whole point of it... so if you are not sure if anyone actually reads what you write... then it does make you wonder if tis all worth it... ~Greebo goes into a decline~

Awix Posted Nov 24, 2001
Well, MaW seems fairly convinced no-one reads him, and isn't bothered by it.
I've probably said this before but I used to write a column for a newspaper, and then I never knew whether anyone read it or not either. It never really bothered me though.
And, hey, you read the column - one person enjoying it makes it all worth while. Would it be enormously self-serving to suggest to Shazz she explicitly ask for feedback on who reads what bits of the Post just so we can know for sure...?
Very probably...

GreeboTCat Posted Nov 25, 2001
~Grin~... and find out that no-one is reading our columns... me not think thats such a good idea... ~bigger grin~
Me likes your column... you write about something to which me is interested in... and me is sure there are lots of other readers of it too...
Me will be very interested in BB'b new bit... me liked reading about the different places on h2g2... in fact... me must admit... me likes most articles about h2g2...

Well, we're up to five or six bona fide entries on the Potter contest, which I'm entirely satisfied with.
The Roving Reporter thing should be interesting, I'm aware there's a massive number of different aspects to this place I'm barely aware of...

Me will have to trot over and look at the entrants... me hasn't looked lately... ~grin~

Awix Posted Nov 25, 2001
I should add that they're all by the same two or three people... never mind, I didn't specify one entry per person, did I...

Always look on the bright side. The judging process should be interesting, anyway.

GreeboTCat Posted Nov 26, 2001
Judging is always interesting.. and occasionally fraught with danger... but then... Danger is my middle name... ~grin~
Er... well actually its not... but.. who cares...

Oh Awix... how sad... you could share mine if you like...

Awix Posted Dec 4, 2001
Don't tell me, it's either 'The' or 'Tiberius'...
I've actually adopted Sidney as my unofficial middle name for various frivolous and semi-serious reasons.
(I briefly flirted with 'Omega' when I was thirteen, which says a lot about what a I was back then.)

GreeboTCat Posted Dec 5, 2001
Oh you are so clever to guess... that indeed my middle name is The... ~grin~... me does quite understand if you not want to share it... its not very imposing is it...
