A full blown English (Breakfast) not the tea :-D

Hiya hn..
Hope those links helped, Reef. Basically you take a big ceramic pot for planting a small tree (unpainted and not glazed) and stand it on a few bricks as legs. The hot plate would sit in the bottom with the electrical cord running through the drainage hole and a heavy duty pan of wood chips on top of it. Invert a ceramic planting bowl that would be the same size in the opening as the pot on the bottom to use as a lid. Stick a replacement grill grate inside for putting the meats on and a replacement grill thermometer in the drainage hole of the bowl "lid".
If you look at my smoker online (google a "Green Egg") and pick flower pots that match that size/shape then put the whole thing up on bricks as legs and you should be good.
I haven't tried it but I'd be willing to bet a cast iron dutch oven filled with smoking wood might work better than the hot plate. Or at least it would be safer to leave overnight if needed. We use a combination of hickory and either apple or peach wood (depending on what is handy). If you have a friend who has fruit trees then ask if you can have the trimmed branches.

*brings out more trays of barbecue and sausages for everyone*
I finally had to give up and shower early for the night - after all that cooking I smelled much like a side of ribs myself.

It's lovely here, Alex. But we have very short winters and summers and very long springs and autumns..
We're already deciding if we want to plant vegetables this year or not and are preparing the flower beds for new plantings.

howdy all...
how dead is a thread till its hit by a bus?
its like a reverse accident, bringing it back to life.
Anyhoop. Smoked scotch egg sausages for all!
The classic 'self sufficency' book from the 1970s has a guide to a brick-buillt wood burning fireplace, with waterboiler, oven, cooking hob and smoking oven all included. Very goodlife! Very energy efficient! It even has an extra long fireplace so that you needn't waste energy chopping logs.

super sweet,
hello Lil, I hope that seat is comfy. I'm not terribly quick at keeping up with the threads here, a few years ago I was a total addict to this site, but I spend much less time online than I once did.
How did you come to h2g2? Are you a Douglas Adams fan?
And do you have a favourite tree? Mine is the London Plane

Hello Purplejenny! *waves*
Yes, thankfully the seat is comfy!
Don't worry about me love, I am an addict too! My daughter put me on here just over a year ago, to help me give up smoking... It worked! But now I am addicted to the site
To be honest, my only knowledge of DNA was through his tv series of h2g2 *hangs head in shame*
My favourite tree? It has to be the Oak!
lil xx
