I am not sure what I hav to add coming from Ask

Start small, find your feet, then roll out, let it develop organically

Trust researchers frequenting PP to either yikes something yikesable and explain why or to refer a situation to community eds

Ask for volunteers who don't want to mod but who would lend a hand with translations if necessary

I do not see a need for translating every post in to English because it sucks the life out posting. It does not aid modding. Researchers are approachable enough for another researcher to ask if they don't understand something

That is pretty much everything I have said on Ask and have posted it here as I got a redirect

smiley - cheers

Thanks. smiley - smiley Having each post translated isn't *my* idea of Polyglot Plaza, either. We could reactivate the existing Language Thing were that the case. smiley - smiley

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

I was actually just going to suggest the possibility of absorbing the Language Thing into Polyglot Plaza...

Yes, I thought I'd like to link to it so that people can use it as an archive. There are quite a lot of teaching threads in there. smiley - smiley

Reading through this, I see some ideas I think are cool. You guys are brilliant. smiley - biggrin

1. Creating some entries in another language, or translating some existing entries. Wow. A lot of work, but a great idea that would get us lots of new readers. smiley - biggrin

2. Providing some form of basic language-learning help. This, too, is a great idea, and labour-intensive. Suggestion: How about one or two people (who can stand each other and don't fight) make some basic language pages for learners to work through, and then start a Newbie Lab for that language?

3. Making a sort of Ask for different language groups is probably the easiest thing to do. That will still need to be moderated. Do I think you'll get trolling in those languages? You betcha.

In fact, I'm just offering outside advice here. From reading that other thread you've mentioned, I have concluded that I probably won't be able to participate in Polyglot Plaza in my second language. I don't have time to deal with the fussing - that takes more energy than I can spare.

On the other hand, you French speakers seem to be nice folks, so maybe I'll come over and chat at you. If you can stand my horrible spelling (and I can figure out how to do the diacriticals). And you wouldn't have to listen to me mispronounce it. smiley - rofl
