A bit of good news today:- A federal judge declared the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools unconstitutional today, and plans to issue a restraining order preventing a San Francisco school from forcing students to do so. Here's an article: http://www.comcast.net/news/index.jsp?cat=GENERAL&fn=/2005/09/14/221325.html
Neadnow's argument is a good one:
>"Imagine every morning if the teachers had the children stand up, place their hands over their hearts, and say, 'We are one nation that denies God exists,'" Newdow said in an interview with AP Radio after the ruling.
"I think that everybody would not be sitting here saying, 'Oh, what harm is that.' They'd be furious. And that's exactly what goes on against atheists. And it shouldn't."<
Truthfully, I'm not holding onto much hope that the Supreme Court will do the right thing. But at least there are some judges left who are capable of rational thought.

I'm sure no one will be surprised to hear that the only link I found which actually presented this news story as news was at BBC world news.

CNN and Fox seem to have only deemed newsworthy the threats of the religious "right" to have the case taken to the Supreme Court.

I think they should change it to One nation under a groove
I notice that Bush refered to 'Our Creator' in his UN speech.

Joe Otten Posted Sep 15, 2005
It may seem encouraging, but I would expect the theocrats to succeed in putting through a constitutional amendment should the case against the pledge succeed.

Unfortunately, you're most likely right, and something like that is bound to happen.
But one lives in hope, right?
