Author: Jhawkesby - U13402970

This is a guide entry for the help project update. I know the project is suppose to be for experienced researchers but this help page is aimed at newbies so I thought that if I update it with things I know will be helpful for new researchers. I feel as though there can be more stuff to add so if someone could recommend a few things that would be really helpful.

>> You can order both lists by either User ID or by Nickname by clicking on one of the buttons at the top of the page.<<

Unfortunately, that makes it switch from "who's online on hootoo" to *all* of the messageboards smiley - erm

"There are Radio buttons in the very top:

...

Changing the selection of these buttons will revert the list to standard == showing all users from dna sites. However showing all users will happen after 2 minutes anyway. "

On another note:

It will automatically transform into a link when you post it. If you type in a help page number, like PeerReview and you want to turn it into a link you must put the <./> and </.> tag around the text and then it will be a link when you post it.

OK, there are a few singular/plural confusions in here (possibly):

>>like blobs or graphics, can't be used in plain text as it uses a GuideML tag.<< - as they use (if you're referring to the blobs/pics, which I think you do).

>>There are plenty of cool tags used in GuideML [that is] perfect to muck around with in your personal space and you can find a lot of them in the GuideML Clinic.<< - are you referring to guide ml or to the tags? If the latter, it shoulkd be: that are

Ok, here's some suggestions for changes:

Fun LinksThere are plenty of cool tags used in GuideML that are perfect to muck around with in your personal space and you can find a lot of them in the GuideML Clinic.

-->

Add an tag at the end.

Smileys come in all shapes and sizes and each one is listed on the Smiley Page. In conversation postings (like forums or journal entries), you use plain text, this means the forum code is needed but when you use GuideML, you must use the GuideML tag.
The forum code and the GuideML tag is listed next to your chosen smiley on the Smiley Page.
Pictures, like blobs or graphics, can't be used in plain text as they use a GuideML tag.

The Who's online button can be found on any page and is a brilliant tool for keeping track of your friends on h2g2 but it also shows who's online on other BBC messageboards. If you want to find out who is online on h2g2 and nowhere else, then click here. You can copy and paste the address from the address bar at the top of your screen if you want the link on your personal space.
You can order the who's online list by either User ID or by Nickname by clicking on one of the buttons at the top of the page.

-->

Use a closing tags instead of a tag - the tags create a gap between paragraphs and generally looks nicer.

Er... that's it smiley - oksmiley - cheers

Any other comments from anyone?

With the break tags well I am sorry about that. I only found out you don't need to use them because you can use the paragraph tags instead. I got rid of them. smiley - smiley
