I really enjoyed this poem. The rhythm and suspense serve to remind one why it is sometimes better to tell a story in verse. I am reminded of The Highwayman and The Charge of the Light Brigade.
...and the metaphysical imagery seemed to counterpoint the underlying metaphor of the humanity of the poet's compassionate soul. 
No, seriously. It was quite good.

I just wish that the story it is based upon wasn't true
