Passing Away - In A Different Way
Chy Started conversation Feb 21, 2010
Many years ago the 'legendary' Irish comedian Dave Allen introduced an idea on one of his TV shows that kept our staff room amused for months.
He posed the question: There are many euphemisums for retirement/death/redundancy etc, could the idea be extended?
ie - Old soldiers never die: they just fade away and Clergymen are defrocked.
We came up with literally hundreds of ideas but so long ago most of them are forgotten.
What about:
Jockies get dismounted
Lampshade makers become delighted
Striptease artists become denuded
spendaholics become dispersed
footballers become displayed
electicity suppliers are degenerated
Archivists get defiled
GCE examiners are degraded
and, of course:
Hector, Helen and the rest of Greek foes were destroyed
It can provide some insightful and/or (depending on youre train of thought) risqué results:
Many bankers are indeed disinterested!
Any takers?
