Was it because of the lameness and thus implied boredom level rather than it being difficult in any way? smiley - biggrin

I thought it would be a simple novelty item as an introductory level for a novice or young child or for anyone feeling very silly. However, it was beginning to look as though either no-one (or no-one suitable) was subscribed to the page or they just weren't in the mood. I was more interested in the mathematical pattern side of things. But having analysed the form I did then have the option of posting one ... or more than one ...

It was the implied boredom level, I think. Coupled with the feeling that there's a few minutes of my life that I'm not going to get back.

I even converted the smilies to numbers, wrote it all out in a grid, identified all the possible entries in each posistion, then filled it in, converted the numbers back to smilies, and typed the solution in here.

I do make life too complicated for myself, I fear.

We all know those cute little computer symbols called "emoticons," where:  smiley - smiley means a smile and
smiley - sadface is a frown.
In former times these were represented by smiley - smiley and smiley - sadface respectively (and a British invention to boot) - until Mr Gates came along and did it automatically.
Well, how about some "assicons"?  Here goes:
(_!_)       a regular *****
(__!__)    a fat ****
(!)          a tight ****
(_*_)       a sore ****
{_!_}       a swishy ****
(_o_)       an ****  hole
(_x_)       kiss my ****
(_zzz_)     a tired ****
(_E=mc2_)  a smart ****
(_$_)       Money coming out of his *****
(_?_)       Dumb *****
