Now most of what was posted by my fellow researcher was correct and done in a decent way however there were a few mistakes in the facts. It is true that we have a lot of religion and more than our fair share of “bible beaters”, this is one of the things that helps make Pensacola a polite town. When you are raised in the church and taught right and wrong you take that with you all your life and it affects your daily life as well. As for the family that brought their dead child to the revival it was not because the revival had said they could do it, the family in their despair had come to this conclusion on their own.
Yes the schools are not the best in the country, the teachers are under paid like all the rest of America. The class rooms are not over crowded and there has not been any real problems in the schools, ie gang problems, since racial problems in the 70’s. As to comments about the separation of races this is a problem all of the United States, and the world for that matter. The reference to the University of West Florida as “gospel U” was completely misquoted, it is actually Pensacola Christian College that is called “gospel U”, which it is.
I am not defending any of the problems here but I think if you are going to report about a town you should know the facts correctly.
