I'm with you, Affy, but it has to be anything baked... cakes, mbougatses, do(ugh)nuts. They are all pervasive here, aren't they.

By pastry, I was refering to any dough based substance that is commonly used as a treat, and often considered junk food IRL. I definitely wouldn't want to exclude all of the other foods. What would the exchange rate between different foods be, though? How many S3 donuts equal an IWA donut??

Witty Moniker Posted Sep 25, 2000
The market would have to set the exchange based on supply and demand. We'd need an h2g2 Carbo Exchange. Then we could trade in carrot cake futures.
*packs Ændr's carton with every sci fi paperback in the store, including, but not limited to the Hyperion series, the Dune series, the Foundation series, the h2g2 series, and a batch of Heinlein*
*Kitty's carton "Down Below Station" and the Earth's Children series (not technically sci fi, but it's got a big honkin' cave lion in it). Throws in a copy of the computer game, "Day of the Tentacle"*

Kitty actually knows Baby rather well... so we won't be needing any Auels. or the Guide, but most other things wil go down a treat.

Oops, sent them out to Your Spaces already. Either return, re-use or recycle as you see fit.

I don't suppose you've got the latest Jack Anthrax story, do you? I'm waiting for the next chapter of "Calm Before The Storm", but don't think it's come out yet.

Sorry to disappoint you, Affy. My 3 favorite search engines came up empty on that one. Is that hard copy or web based literature?
We aim to please!
Afgncaap5 Posted Sep 26, 2000
Web based. Jack Anthrax writes Zork fan-fiction. In fact, he's the only person who puts his fan-fics on the Internet. I've heard his latest story's been released, but none of the Zork sites I frequent have it. And I frequent the really big and prestigious ones! I'm just trying to find it soon, so that I can see how Bilnad, Antharia Jack, and Afgncaap go about interogating the assasin.
*Notices the blank, uncomprehending looks on everyone's eyes*
I'll stop talking about Zork now. That has a tendency to bring about an early death of conversations.

Afgncaap5 Posted Sep 28, 2000
See? Talking about it causes short, one word responses. Anyway, I'll just browse for a bit.

Hey, just so everyone knows, the game that I was talking about has been released, along with about fifty other games, and the voting for the annual IF awards has started! I sure hope Stefano gets a good prize...

*waves to Ændr*
Affy, does the game stand alone or do I have do a ton of Zork research in order to make sense of it? *Just what I need, another addiction.*

Afgncaap5 Posted Oct 8, 2000
All of the Zork games stand alone, but they usually make more sense if you've played previous ones. For instance, one who had never played a previous text-based Zork game would've been turned off by all the grue references in Zork: The Undiscovered Underground because had you never played one before, you would not totally understand what a grue was, and what they were capable of.
However, the only thing that might make his game difficult to understand is that his first language is Italian, and there are several grammar/spelling errors. I'm just hoping that all of the players out there can see past that to the great puzzles and storyline behind them.
However, let me warn you: very few who play text games are left unaddicted. And when there are fifty of them...you can say goodbye to free time.
