Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque Posted May 3, 2005
I'm surprised nobody has commented on this yet
I've never heard of the band (or much else post-1990 ) but the entry itself looks fine,
ok writing, decent layout etc
hope you get some responses soon

This looks pretty damn good I don't know anything about the band so I'll limit myself to a comment about the formatting - the quote at the beginning of the entry needs to be in italics.
I think I remember Fredward Headboard If you're having problems accessing your old account email h2g2 (dot) support (at) bbc (dot) co (dot) uk with as much info as you can remember - username, password, email address you used to register the account, and they should be able to help

Thanks I'll stick in the italics and maybe tweak it a bit more. I did get on to the friendly people at support and I think they are in the process of finding some way to transfer my old stuff over or something. Hopefully then I'll be able to get my identity in synch..

Well this is certainly well-written, but for some reason it just feels all wrong to me. Instead of an h2g2 entry, it reads like a Press Release biog. Personally, I'd like to see some lyric and/or interview quotes to prove the points you are making about Karen O's 'sexually charged lyrics and punk rock style'. I agree with what you're saying, but to the average non-YYYs fan, I feel it might be a bit dry. There are also other contextual details, such as Karen O's relationship with Angus Andrew from The Liars, (which allegedly inspired 'Maps',) and her obvious influence on current indie-hipster fashion, (I was at a gig in Camden last night and you couldn't MOVE for Karen O clones!) which mioght deserve a little more attention. What came first? Karen as fashion icon, or was she just reflecting something that was already going on?
Good stuff, though. And older and wiser guideheads than me seem to have no problems with it.

Fascinating article! I agree with Yal; I'd like to see more interview stuff, personal history, etc.
Good job!

Hi thanks for your comments, Your right I do need a bit more backup material and a bit more excitement will liven it up a little bit I think.

Let us know if and when you make any changes to this so that we can look it over again and hopefully get it into the Edited Guide.

hi,
Added one anecdote, a couple of quotes and a bit more spice to the article, largely through the use of the word bombastic. I'm still unsure if this should be spelt with two oo's or was that just Shaggy?
Anyways comments welcome,

Nice Entry.
Questions / Comments (I'll be succint and to the point, OK?)
What is a 'fashionista set'
The band is not yet an 'established' band, much of the stuff in this Entry will sound dated in a few yers from now (e.g. "Much will depend on their second album to be released soon which, the band claims represents a radical change in direction.")
Right in the beginning: "The Yeah Yeah Yeahs formed when vocalist [K and guitarist N] decided [...] to form a [...] band." When? Where? (I know the info is somewhere further down the text, but this info would be nice here to set the frame for the reader) The sentence also seems a bit redundant. The band formed when it was decided to be formed.
Good luck!

Hi! This is a great entry, but one thing that we'd have to insist on is either to drop the example of a provocative lyric or to replace it with another one that's (how ironic!) less provocative! Even though the swear word's been starred out, it's still a wee bit too strong for an Edited Guide entry. Could you find another example that gets the point across without being quite so... erm... *strong*?

Thanks for your comments.
I put the provocative bit in cos I was told too if I put something less provocative in it won't be provocative but I can try and find something only mildly effective.
Dr. Hell..
- A fashionista set is a group of people (or badgers) who are in the fashion / trendy industries fashion designers, artists, socialites etc people with their heads up there own behinds. I did check its a genuine if informal word.
- I'm not too worried about it being dated isn't that the beauty of a dynamic h2g2 thing?
- That sentance is very important it shows the whimsical nature of the band's creation and that it was only two of the members that started it (perhaps I could put the timeframe in there though)

Hello, you must have misunderstood my post above (note to myself: I shouldn't post succint posts...)
The questions were meant as bits that I as a reader would like to see written / addressed in the Entry, not exactly here in this thread.
fashionista. The explanation you gave here might be included as a footnote to the Entry.
dated. We have different points of view on this one. I think that Edited Guide Entries should be as definitive as possible, so that you can read about it in 10 years and still get an accurate idea of whatever the Entry is about. Like, s'pose the band's second album - god forbid - is a major flop and the band will stay in the annals merely as a curiosum of the early 2000s. If you read this Entry in 2015 you'll get the wriong impression. Actually, that's one of the difficulties of writing about something presently in process (a band beginning their career, a war that has just started, etc... It would be like writing an Entry in 1993 about the superiority of the newest type of cassette recorder - sure, but a few years later it became completely obsolete). But that is more a philosophical difference. I just think that this Entry might sound dated in a few years.
Exactly. The sentence reads strangely, like: "This reply was written when I decided to write the reply." If you add the where and when it will get better.
All the best, and good luck,
HELL

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
