Instead of frustratingly wasting paper and ink in printing out a page as it looks on-screen, why not have a 'print' button that would show the page to be printed in printer-friendly, plain-text format, not unlike the kind used for online news sources? I think this is a terribly good idea, as I just printed out an entry on Chaucer, only to realise that I had wasted almost a full page because of the bits at the top - the BBC toolbar, the h2g2 title whatnot - the sidebar, and the list of recent conversations at the bottom. This could quite easily be changed by the simple addition of a 'printer-friendly format' button. It can obviously be done, as every page on BBC News has one. I would heavily encourage this!

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Firstly, if all you want is the text of an entry, simply highlight it and select 'Print highlighted section' from the print window.

Secondly, there is a 'Text only' link in the data box of all A and U pages (and possibly some others), although the text is rather large and not exactly printer - or rather, paper friendly.

That text link isn't designed for printers. It's the link to the Betsie version for use with screen readers! Small wonder it won't work properly on the printed page.

All right, it may not be the most necessary thing in the world, but it would still be cool. *shrugs*

There are a great many things that would be cool to have on h2g2, but very few of them are on Jim Lynn's to-do list smiley - sadface

You could try printing from the Plain skin.
