Nephew Who counting hits
"Reduce the number of recent postings
I do not beleive anybody can read 25 postings in less then 15 minutes.
I do not think you can read 20 postings in less then 10 minutes.
I think one can not read 15 postings in less then 5 minutes.
I do barely manage to load 10 postings in less then 2 minutes.
If there is nobody else online then no refresh is needed
If there are 50 accounts online we could see new converations every 1 minute.
If there are 100 accounts online by seeing new converations every 3 minutes we still would be informed enough.
If there are 150 accounts online by seeing new converations every 4 minutes we can contribute sufficiently.
If there are 200 accounts online by seeing new converations only every 5 minutes we can contribute.
If there are more then 200 accounts online by seeing new converations just once per 6 minutes we still would have some contact.
Just an idea, for most researchers seeing more then 20 at one time is not possible anyway.
And if you really have a backlog you should inspect the MP list spawning from your personal space."

Hi Traveller,
As far as I'm aware, people use this function to keep track of their subscribed conversations, but that doesn't mean that they read every single one. Sometimes they might be searching for a specific one and wish to skip the first few.
I'm not sure what the benefit of changing this would really be, though I'd be interested to hear fors and againsts from others.

Traveller in Time online
"From what I have seen on the list on the Personal Space of nearly all researchers, the total time span between first and tenth posting is always more then 20 minutes. (Only ACEbots manage to have a span of some ten minutes )
For searching this specific posting, one could use the < <./>MP292?show=50</.> > alternative. This is also more relaxed then the popup.
If you are halfway reading titles in the conversations popup it tends to refresh, and you see the top ten again."

I agree, Jimster, and actually would perfer if you could increase the number of recent postings visible. Often I have one or two threads I'm following closely and if I only sign on for five minutes I just want to get to them, even if they're not on top.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
