I am a pagan who has been studying the wasp cabala (or k or q if you prefer) for a long time now. Certainly long before the LA set became interested in it. (if you find people like me equally as irritating I would point out the reason cabala exists in modern high magik. During the crusades and the conversions and the burnings by the church Jews and pagans often provided shelter for each other to avoid persecution by the Christians. This is how cabala came into paganism and some aspects of traditional cabala took on characteristics of sympathetic magik.) I think your rabbi may be right. I found the best way to look at it is like this:

A: remember a few years ago when everyone was getting into Buddhism? Well where are they now? Studying the cabala, that’s where! This is just a passing phase, so why get bent out of shape about it. This at least should inspire some level of tolerance in the mind of the public. If you recall before its popularization Buddhism was thought to be just as much a part of the occult sciences as anything else. While granted I know it hasn’t completely dissolved its stigma it has helped their public image. The Dalie Lama’s opinions are now often mentioned in the same news reports as the Pope. Regardless of how frustrating it can be to have you cultural heritage exploited an increase of tolerance never hurt anyone.

B: I know what a long shot it is, but who knows, perhaps one of these trendy dolts will learn something along the way. In my opinion anything that brings the human race one step closer to realizing our true nature as fragments of one divine whole, that all life is love and light, and our division from the divine is only an illusion created by our consciousness, can’t be a bad thing.

While admittedly less than lofty, and surely shy of earth-shattering, I offer these two bits of time-tested wisdom:

1. Have faith in your faith.

2. Don't panic.

The true seekers will find the truth, the others will take their search (sic) elsewhere soon enough to not do any lasting harm.
