This entry is written in response to questions posed by Bluebottle.

I hope I have made it clear that there is no particularly appropriate time during the singing of this ditty 'to hold a flag, salute, put your hand over your heart, pick your nose, put your hands over your eyes in the whacky goggles pose and make raspberry noises with your armpits.'

However, in its original performance version, these motions might not have been entirely out of place...smiley - whistle

And that ain't just whistlin' Dixie. smiley - winkeye

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

One of my favorite stories about the song was Lincoln's request after Lee's surrender http://www.lincolncollection.org/discover/ask-an-expert/qa-archive/was-%E2%80%9Cdixie%E2%80%9D-really-lincoln%E2%80%99s-favorite-song/

I have also heard it played many times for the Virginia Reel A87802013 not trying to self promote, but I thought it might be an appropriate link.

Thanks, FS. Yeah, I liked that Lincoln anecdote, too, but I was trying to tighten up, so I decided to leave it out, along with many other 'Dixie' references...

But I can and will put in that excellent Virginia Reel link. I think I know where...smiley - run

It's going into a museum, where it belongs.
