A Conversation for London Underground - Metropolitan Line: West of Harrow
Hillingdon Station
Vestboy Started conversation Dec 1, 2006
In the late 1990s there was a rumour that Hillingdon Station was such a posh station because it was going to be the main contact point for Warner Brothers Theme Park - which would nave been a few hundred yards away.
It led the Guardian cartoonist Steve Bell to draw, I believe, the only cartoon in a national paper that dealt with a local NIMBY (not in my back yard) issue. He lives not far from the station and near to where the theme park was planned.
The Theme park was never built as it was rejected by local planners and had become a major election issue locally. Probably resulting in one of the few Tory victories in London at the time. Uxbridge became the most marginal Tory held seat at the 1997 election while surrounding seats fell like nine pins.
