I shall be slightly more particular in the way i write entries in deference to the wishes expressed by my peers here .
Today i will write about the various educational possibilities in pune .
THE PUNE UNIVERSITY
Established in 1948 . The university is located on the erstwhile Bombay Presidency Governor-general`s summer capital . A total area of 411 acres of the campus is one of the green parts of Pune . With 46 departments and 269 affiliated independent colleges it is one of the largest universities in the country . It has the distinction of having the largest number of foreign students in India .
DEEMED UNIVERSITIES
{ this concept needs explanation - all the universities are government organisations . however private institutes with an adequate variety of courses and the necessary academic proficiency are granted a deemed university status }
1 Symbiosis University - an institution with courses ranging from arts sciences commerce and law to business management . a non technical univ
2 Bharati Vidyapeeth - Backed by a very influential politician [ not a negative really ] it is an institution having 32 colleges including the professional branches .
3 Gokhale Institute - one of the countries leading economic think-tanks
COLLEGES OF REPUTE
MEDICINE
1 Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College BJMC - attached hospital is The Sassoon Hospital which sees a daily outpatient load of 5000-8000 . inpatient occupancy never less than 1200 . Sir Alexander Fleming visited here and taught . The students are among other things reputed in Dramatic and Musical circles .
2 [ there are 4 others in the civilian side of life but they are academic lightweights .]
3 Armed Forces Medical College AFMC - a rarity anywhere in the world . an undergrad as well as postgrad medicine college entirely of the armed forces . One of the most advanced medical facilities in india . The students are trained to be Army officers
ENGINEERING
1 College Of Engineering Pune COEP - celebrating its 175th anniversary now . Has alumni which read like the whos who of indian technology . One of its students was Visvesarayya , the man credited with guiding the fundamentals of Indias nation building .
2 Poona Institute of Computer Technology
3 Vishwakarma Institute of Technology - named for the smith of Indian myth
4 Maharashtra Institute of Technology - the Director Mr Vishwanath Karad is India`s rep at UNESCO

1 Fergusson College - ranks as one of the most prestigious colleges in the nation . it has given us the genious of a wrangler paranjpe as well as 2 ex prime ministers .

4 The Pune University Departments of Zoology Botany Physics Chemistry Mathematics are unfortunately placed last here out of my own stupidity .
[ the univ has the national institute of cell sciences . the c-dac ie centre for development of advanced computing - makers of supercomputers ]

The place where India`s best come to become officers and gentlemen . Situated along a dam reservoir nestled among the hills .
The cadets are the pride and joy of every Puneite . They never fail to draw admiring looks every time they have a day out . the NDA Ball is a must go for every young person .[ of course this is not possible as Pune has upward of half a million young persons of the going to a ball age ] .
Pune as i said in part one is a city with an academic veneer and nowhere is this as true as among the many excellent schools .

St Vincents was set up in 1867 as was St mary`s .
The Municipal Schools run by the Municipal Corporation are of great service to those who are not fortunate .However it must be told that all education for girls in govt aided schools as St annes is entirely free . The best school in Pune - St Vincents - is a boys school . It is government aided and therefore the boys pay only a nominal fee .
The stories about the schools can actually be placed in another entry altogether .[ i think i`ll do that ]
