Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Great little city north of Boston MA. Settled in 1630's. It has many restaurants, shops and pubs. The city is located in the small section of New Hampshire that touches the Atlantic Ocean. There is a thriving art community here with many play houses and artists. There are also many people in high tech that are trying to gain recognition for this little city. They have even gone as far as to call Portsmouth "The Ecoast".
The History of Portsmouth in a little unsavory but the people here relish in it. Being an old shipping port, there were many brothels. The shipyard remains but the red light district has disappeared. The locals love to point out where it was located and many plaques pointing out locals of Ill repute glimmer through out. Strawberry Banke (olde English) ,the location of the old red light district, has now been revamped. Many of the old New England style houses still remain. Some are in disrepair but many have been restored to their original splendor. The population of Portsmouth tends to swell in the summer especially on the week ends when the people from Massachusetts and Maine come to visit. It is really a great city to visit or to call home.
