Astronomy magazine says:

'On July 19th the moon rises after 10:30 p.m. Every night thereafter it rises
about an hour later. At this point, the comet should be near its peak brightness
of about magnitude 3.5. LINEAR moves under Polaris and heads below the
bowl of the Big Dipper.

During the last week of July, we're in a losing battle. Each evening the comet
will be lower in the sky for a given time, washing out the tail. To see it any
higher means to start earlier, but then the twilight is still bright.'

Good luck! It's still cloudy here, but the rains have stopped!!

Well, I did have a look that night, but failed to see it due to....... the spectaculat aurora show! Yipee I saw it at last. It was only green but really moved, just like you see on the TV, the way waves of colour sweep accross the sky and jet upwards. I watched it for about 1.5 hours.

Back to messier. I feal that a list of the Cdwell catalougue would be cool. That the one devised by Britains very own Patrick Moore. Plus info on the new star cattelogue, poossibly also a bit on the night when it is posible to se every one. Just some thoughts.

I thought about a explaining when a good time to view them would be. But, believe it or not, I've run out of space in the text window! Netscape only allows so many characters and I'm at my limit for this entry. Enforced brevity! smiley - winkeye

I'm going to try it again in IE over the weekend and see if that will make a difference.

As far as the other catalogues, no thanks - this list was a monster to compile and I want to move back to another project I had to shelve while I finished this one.

And when did you catch the aurorae? Lucky, lucky you! That's still on my list of things to see.
