A topic very near to my heart. I might fiddle with the headings and add a few more quick things, but it's all but done. I hope you enjoy.

A subject close to mine as well after being forced out by the official publication for political reasons. The old editorial committee I was part of reformed and started a e-zine style magazine, as we did not have access to official funding and emailed it around campus. Getting a jump with exclusives on the official rag as we could publish in minutes any scoops. In the end at the next elections the editor was rightfully democratically re-instated but for 4 months we were teh underground.

What university gives you enough free printing to produce a periodical? The University of Durham charges 4p per A4 sheet. But if you're not going to be outright subversive, there's also the possibility of setting yourselves up as a student society. That was done for a student periodical at Durham so that it could get Students' Union funding, although there were some adminisrative concerns, principally the requirement in Durham that student societies charge membership fees as well.
Interesting article, even if I don't feel ready to take on Palatinate*.
*Durham Students' Union's newspaper, and one of the organs through which the university talks to itself.

Our college paper was birdcage liner. Some friends and I started our own paper and printed 250 copies a week. We never had to pay for paper or ink and were very popular. I only assumed there must be more universities that don't charge for printer supplies.

"The New York Times even makes up stories" Give us an example, or weasel the passage out .
A nice Entry. I will have a deeper look at it later!

Sorry, I thought the episode was famous enough to not explain. In May of 2003, NYT reporter Jayson Blair resigned after allegations that he made quotes and stories up, stole from other papers, and pretended to be on assignment when he was actually at home. It was a whole big scandal, at least in the States, because the NYT is supposed to be so reliable. Anyway, I don't think all of that needs to be in the entry, so I'll just cut it.
Thanks,

If I were to be considering starting a publication such as this, I would feel very confident using the recipe you've laid out. And to have already used and fine tuned it yourself in a real word scenario gives it the validity needed for a guide entry {in my humble opinion}and as such should be included.

The idea of electronic distribution of alternative newspapers is so incredibly widespread at this point that I'd think that the entry really needs to include that idea to be complete.

Tidbit is American english/slang for a small bit or morsel. A titbit sounds like a treat of another nature, tasty in its own right, but NEVER to be looked upon as a light snack.

Nuhhuh. Titbits are little bits that you just snaffle up. I think it's the English version of tidbit.

Sorry, I sometimes forget that everything gets converted to the pound over the dollar. And yes, I do snaffle up titbits whenever available. Delicious!

This reminded me of being on the (high) school paper - I haven't thought of that in years! I had forgotten how fun it was .
I like this, I think it's very easy to follow and understand, and it deserves a bump back up near the top of the list.

Just wondering what the story is with this one - quite a good Entry, but it seems Lochinvar hasn't posted anything since December.

While this is a great entry, I do feel like it's rather out of date already for the reasons mentioned earlier -- I would guess that a large proportion of alternative campus newspapers use the internet to help them get around the resources needed for printing. Mentioning the problem without mentioning the solution makes the entry seem as if it's a good 10 years out of date already.

Hi! I'm not dead. Anyway, I've made the changes as noted. I guess I didn't even think about online publishing. When we did our paper, we didn't even think about it. Oh well, it's in now.
Take it easy,

Looking very good...
In my own school days our underground 'Fecal Broth' was the talk of the school.
I reckon you've covered all the basic you'll need.
