DD has been hard at work since Shrub accepted his parties nomination lat night.

To the right of the Gallery now stand a potrait of G.W. Bush behind a nice shrub in a pretty terracotta pot made from Texan mud and painted oil black.

To the left is a potrait of J. F. Kerry next to a map of the West Coast of Ireland. These are behind a 1:20 scale model of a Vietnam Swiftboat.

On the back walk is a dart board bearing a likeness of Ralph Nader. A. A. Gore jr can be seen hogging the oche which darts grasped tightly in his hand.

Normal rules of courtesy for the Atelier exist in this thread.

Here's to two more months of election discusion.

OIh I forgot to mention there is a bank of TV's tuned into every news station imaginable and an interactive map ready to indicate the balance in key states. The remote for this is stored in a box under the dias beneath the TV screens.

Good Doctor Zomnker (This must be Tuesday," said GDZ to himself, sinking low over his Dr. Pepper, "I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.")

*Dragging his usual beanbag chair behind him.*

Oi DD! Looks good! I think I'll put myself in an appropriate place.

*Places the beanbag under the map of Ireland.*

Let's not forget this map of Mozambique to honor our next First Lady, Teresa.

::tacks it up next to the picture of Kerry::

I didn't watch last night, but NPR was kind enough to have some soundbites on Morning Edition today and I nearly lost my oatmeal. smiley - ill The nerve of that guy. How Bush can categorize someone who volunteered to serve his country in Vietnam while he himself hid out in points unknown in Alabama as unfit to protect this country is beyond me. Kerry needs to hit back and hit back hard, because I can see all the important issues this election needs to be about getting swallowed up by the vile and venal Swift Boat Vets and their Republican backers.

An interesting article from "The Independent", a british newspaper. It's today's cover story:

It's brilliant. And it's scary smiley - erm

The pct of population vs pct of world energy consumption should be put in neon on every third street corner in the US, if you ask me... And the poverty figures are sickening - OK, I'm a Dane which is equal to a welfare system probably seen as downright leninistic to a lot of Americans, but anyway... And, finally, the "cannot name xyz on a map" figures should make somebody think about teaching people to understand the world - before it comes and bites them...

*stops himself*

smiley - blush Sorry for ranting there - but I just couldn't help myself...

(I do realise, in the context of this discussion, that eg the geography knowledge cannot be laid fully at Bush's feet - but then, there's enough of the others that can)

Oh, before I forget: Well done decoration job, DD smiley - smiley

The fact that most Americans don't know a lot of these things is frightening, yes, but not exactly unexpected. I mean, they don't teach this stuff in school. Name the state capitals, find Europe on a map. That's about it. I blame the No Child Left Behind Act (no, seriously, I do) which basically teaches children absolutely NOTHING.

Sadly, with the ways in which the US works, wanting to know when you get older is equally uncommon.

Ormy, there is always a bubble after the convention. The trick is to sustain that for another 8 weeks.

I'm getting a Michael Moore-ish pleasure out of chasing our mutual friend around the park with a microphone in my hand. smiley - evilgrin

smiley - hug for Ormy. smiley - stiffdrink for Ormy. smiley - cheerup for Ormy.

In '88 Dukasis got an 18% point bump out of his convention. Have you ever heard of President Dukasis?

Everyone needs to concentrate on the image of John Kerry, one hand on the Bible, one hand raised, taking the oath of office. Imagine him wearing a topcoat because it will be January.

Ok, so it isn't scientific. But since my visualization experiment never got off the ground, I think that this is a worthy subject for experimentation. We should choose a time of day and all of us visualize the same thing at the same time.

Yes, but our side didn't get a smiley - boing after its convention, and the Forces of Darkness apparently did. smiley - wah

About the only bright point is that they took the poll after Arnie but before the voters were reminded of who they were being asked to vote for.
