Had this kicking about for ages. It's a slightly contrived combination of three of my passions. Comments are very welcome.

Hot damn! This is one fine entry smiley - ok.

Much kudos for inserting 'whole general mish-mash' into a guide entry smiley - ok. I guess going the whole sort of general mish-mash hog would be over the top.

There are a few typos (I can return with those later if you want), but what the entry really needs is a few diagrams of the waveforms in question - do you have anything useable?

smiley - cheersvp

Thank you. I could probably do some pictures, but I've no idea how to incorporate them I'm afraid...

But I agree, it would be a lot easier to explain with diagrams.

To incorporate pictures, e-mail the Eds.

Failing that, e-mail Shankyrich.

It's fascinating, and very clearly explained.

I'm going to mention it to a guitar-playing electrician I know.

Brilliant entry - well done! smiley - applause

Didn't the Kinks stick knitting needles in the amp? (as in You Really Got Me)

TiT, that's pretty much exactly what I wanted to show, although I also need one showing the Fourier series. I'll come up with something in slow time and sort it out with the eds - assuming this gets picked of course smiley - blush.

Icy - I googled for the knitting needle anecdote and found this (see final para) - it appears there's some debate!

smiley - laugh Yes, I heard Ray say it in a Radio 2 interview, about the time of the 40th anniversary of YRGM.

[Oh, don't talk to me about Fourier series. I had to study the behaviour of plucked strings in my OU unit last year. Fascinating topic, though - had to derive it from scratch using just Newton's & Hooke's laws smiley - headhurts]

One tiny missing word here:
Crank the preamp up as far as it’ll go and you’ll something akin to white noise >> and you'll [get] something?

Genius, Mr Blackeye. This is a masterwork - cleverly done and simply explained. I think we're there.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
