Ten Steps To Ruining Your Own Novel #6
Your mom and your friends are not the best critics.
It's hard to say who would make the best critic of your work.
If you do find someone who is truly useful as a critic, they would
probably be a good editor, too.
But most folks are useless to a writer who is trying to find her
own voice.
Be aware that you are not married to this thing.
You can stop at any point and not finish or you can finish it
and abandon it, or cannabalize the best bits for later work.
The whole bruhaha in a nutshell: If someone likes it, it don't mean much.
If they don't like it, ask them why. But don't pass the damn thing around
at church or family reunions in the first place.
