Hurst Castle

I haven't visited the Isle though I reckon I have seen most of its northern shore. Quite possibly the best view I ever had was from Hurst Castle. BTW Great article I may have to get across sometime to see these castles of which you are so proud.

The only one which remains to any great degree on the island is Yaverland castle - which is always a good thing to see, if you aren't disappointed by the fact it is small. You also wouldn't notice Cowes Castle unless you had it pointed out to you... But soon I'll be doing an article on the Victorian Forts of the area, and they are a lot more visible.

Hey I've done a couple of digs where all that remained was the odd chunk of wall about 4 feet down. Anything above ground is an advantage.

Ah right - well, in that case, just find teh Royal Yaucht Squadron. As for Sandown Castle, how about swimming 50 metres out to sea, and then digging?

Well watch the front pager of the local paper then, for someone claiming H2G2 immunity for nude bathing at the site of Sandown Castle with trowel in hand, it could be me.

Alas, there's not much there to see smiley - sadface But when I finish the Victorian Forts article you'll learn of a lot more historical, and more accesable (if less fun to get to) sites.
