did I get it...did I...did I...did I...if the game origin isn't right then I'd have to say Warhammer 40000

nope, so cheating didn't help, did it Firstly, question 2, When was it /first/ released, not when were half of the differnt versions and supliments released, but overall I'll give you 4, although If I was being lenient I'd probably give you more, but I'm not because you had the bare faced cheek to ask in the h2g2 RPG soc

...I thought I did pretty good for having almost no clue of the game...the sad thing is I found all of the info on their site and on guide entries...didn't use anything anyone had told me...

Was it based on the Legend of Zelda games? Which was inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia books. Or I could be way off.

here's a hint, the game it was based on was another game previously published by the company. Oh and LoZ was released in 1986.
If people are really having difficulty with this I'll give some more clues. Supermoo was probably closer to being right than I indicated, but his asking the RPG group made me a lot stricter than I may have been

I gave two guesses...hmmm...well the only other game that I /know/ was produced by Wizards of the Coast was pokemon...and that can't be it...and I've never heard of the original company...it took a lot of searching through the guide entries to find the name...I don't see how many people would know this stuff off the top of thier head...I mean I don't know when the Earth Worm Jim game for the computer was created or who thought it up......It wouldn't be Mech Warrior or G-nome...or umm...hmmm...umm...I can't think of anything else...
oh well...

ok, I'll give you a break down of how close supermoo was.
1) only half right
2) I only wanted one year, that is, I wanted the year that D&D first appeared, here's a clue, they are celebrating an aniversary this year.
3) kind of, although the company should be known by another name. It consists of three words, you may be able to work it out from this answer and one of the events listed in the answer given to question 2)
4) Nope, the company started in a london flat. It was started by three guys, two of which went on to write adventure game books and now both work for computer game companies.
5) you've already mentioned it.
6) yup, or 8 if you include Dragon Quest, 9 with Dragon Strike, 10 if you count the Dragonlance boardgame and so on, but I really wanted either 7 or 8. Dragon Quest was a DnD set, but it was a heeavily modified/slimmed down version of the game
7) yup, Greyhawk was the first expansion, which allowed miniature use and for wargames to be fought.
8) WoTC it is.
so if people can answer the rest of the questions, but give supermoo a chance i.e. wait till tomorrow to answer, then the first person to give me the correct answers to all the questions wins
PS Bonus points to anyone who can tell me how many different versions I've got
